Pakistan is proud of you, keep up the good work: Shahid Afridi

Former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi was all praises for the Pakistan Cricket Team after they defeated New Zealand in the 2nd T20I to clinch the series. Sarfraz Ahmed’s side had earlier completed a rare whitewash over Australia after they humiliated them in all three T20Is in the UAE. They didn’t spare their neighbours either as they’ve already attained an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 3-match series. Pakistan defeated the Blackcaps by 6 wickets on Friday in Dubai.

The number 11 seems to be a rather special one for Pakistan. A masterful chase from the hosts helped them secure their 11th straight series win – and 11th consecutive win in a T20I chase. The match did go down to the wire but Pakistan were in control all throughout the match. Mohammad Hafeez played what was possibly the shot of the day to get the winning runs – he lifted Adam Milne over extra cover for four. New Zealand were competitive, but they weren’t good enough to get the better of this Pakistan side, who seem to have the capacity to overhaul any team in the world.

A standout performer for the Green Shirts came in the form of young Shaheen Shah Afridi. In the second T20I, he was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with figures of 3 for 20 off his quota of four overs. Most importantly, he removed the New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson, who was looking to tee off after he’d got into the 30s.

Pakistan were able to gun down a target of 154 with 2 balls to spare thanks to substantial contributions from each of the top order batsmen. Veteran all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez came lower down the order and played a gem of an innings – his unbeaten 34 off 21 meant Pakistan didn’t have too much to fear in the chase. The well-contested series continues with 3 ODIs and 3 Tests.

Shahid Afridi, who has constantly been backing Pakistan’s brilliant all-round performances, once again took to Twitter to show his appreciation for the national team. He wrote, “100% results for this 100% T20I team! Congratulations Sarfraz, Mickey all players and management. Special praise for young Shaheen Afridi great find, all in all a total team effort, Pakistan is proud of you. Keep up the good work #PAKvNZ”
