Zimbabwe is all set to host a tri-series against Pakistan and Australia starting from July 1 to July 8. Pakistan’s national selection committee led by Inzamam-ul-Haq on Friday announced 15-member T20I squad for the tri-nation series. There are a few interesting inclusions and exclusions in the squad.

The 37-year-old Mohammad Hafeez was recently cleared by the International Cricket Council to resume his bowling duties. The Inzamam-led selection panel has picked him as an all-rounder in the squad. The selection committee had a word with the Pakistan skipper Sarfraz Ahmed before picking Hafeez in the squad. His inclusion will help Pakistan in the upcoming Asia Cup this year and World Cup next year.

Ahmed Shehzad’s replacement?

Another surprising inclusion came in the form of 22-year-old Sahibzada Farhan, who is known for his explosive batting skills. He has played 15 T20s with 36.5 average and two fifties. His inclusion in the squad came up because of Ahmed Shehzad‘s exclusion, who failed the dope test, which was conducted before the Scotland T20I series.

Pakistan will miss the services of their most dependable batsman Babar Azam, who fractured his left wrist during the recently concluded England Test series. What’s more surprising is the axing of the pacer Rahat Ali, who was included in the squad for Scotland series but wasn’t used in the playing XI.

Coming to the pace attack, Mohammad Amir will lead the unit alongside Hasan Ali, Usman Khan Shinwari, Faheem Ashraf and Shaheen Shah Afridi. Two spinners, Mohammad Nawaz and Shadab Khan have been included with other part-time options available. Pakistan first plays against Zimbabwe in the tri-series on July 1. All the games will be played at Harare Sports Club, Harare.

Have a look at the T20I Squad: Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Hafeez, Shoaib Malik, Asif Ali, Hussain Talat, Sarfraz Ahmed (c & wk), Haris Sohail, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, Faheem Ashraf, Hasan Ali, Mohammad Amir, Usman Khan, Shaheen Afridi, Sahibzada Farhan
