Former Pakistan cricketer Ramiz Raja and Asad Ali, a chartered accountant by profession, have been nominated for the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) Board of Governors (BoG). The notification was issued by the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) under Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan, who’s also the Patron-in-Chief of the PCB.
Earlier, Asad was nominated by Khan along with Ehsan Mani, the former PCB chairman. Asad has again been nominated for a three-year term in the BOG. However, Mani stepped down from his position after his three-year tenure came to an end. Mani was offered an extension to his contract, but he refused to accept the same.

Mani informed his decision to Imran Khan, who’s also a former Pakistan cricketer. As per reports in Cricket Pakistan, a few government officials weren’t happy with the national team’s performance on the tour of England. While Pakistan faced a 0-3 whitewash in the ODI series, they could only win a solitary T20I in Nottingham out of three matches.
The who’s who of the Pakistan government were also not satisfied with the mishandling of the Kashmir Premier League. On Monday, August 23, Raja had an interaction with Imran Khan regarding taking Pakistan cricket forward. Raja had also served as PCB’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) between 2003 and 2004.
Pakistan recently played a four-match T20I series and a two-match Test series in the West Indies. In the shorter format, three out of the four games were washed off due to rain. Pakistan won the other game by seven runs and clinched the series 1-0.
The Test series turned out to be a competitive one. Pakistan lost the opening Test by one wicket at Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica. In the second game at the same venue, Pakistan won by 109 runs after Shaheen Shah Afridi’s heroics with the ball.
Afridi was the star of the show as he picked up 10 wickets, which included a six-wicket haul in the first innings. Fawad Alam also chipped in with an unbeaten ton in the first innings.
Pakistan are next set to host New Zealand and England for a bilateral series. Thereafter, they will take part in the T20 World Cup in the UAE.
