Sri Lanka was recently rocked by a series of bomb blasts in and around the capital city of Colombo when three churches and three high-end hotels were targeted by assailants leaving close to 400 people dead and many more injured. There was a huge hue and cry around the world as the attack was severely condemned by each nation of the world and help was offered to the Island nation.

This might have adverse effects on cricket in the country as well, now that the tour of Pakistan U19 team to Sri Lanka is in serious doubts over security reasons. The team was scheduled to leave for a full tour of Island nation on April 30, which looks highly unlikely now something that has been confirmed by the sources close to the U19 team management.

Tour has been tentatively pushed ahead for a week

Rohail Nazir-led squad will not depart according to the original schedule now and the coaching team has been asked by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to prepare training programs for another 7 days, indicating that the tour has been moved ahead by seven days at least at this point of time.

“SLC has told PCB that it will get back once discussing the issue with the government and relevant security agencies. It seems unlikely that tour will proceed as scheduled, but there is nothing official from both the boards. PCB is not putting any pressure on Sri Lanka as it understands the position,” a source close to the team gave the news to Geo.tv.

PCB is scheduled to take the final call on the tour after consulting with the Sri Lankan Cricket and assessing the security measures in the country.

“As a cricketer, I was looking forward to the tour. It is a hard time for them and we must stand with them. We are well prepared and hopeful for winning the series,” Saim Ayub, Pakistani U19 team member was also quoted in the report.
