Pakistan vs Australia: Aaron Finch questions the strange three-metre rule in DRS
They were denied Haris Sohail's wicket in the first Test as well.
Nothing has gone Australiaās way in the ongoing second Test against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi. After bundling out the hosts for a middling total of 282 in the first innings, they crumbled haplessly with the bat to concede a hefty lead of 137 runs. However, they are left confused with the DRSā three-metreā rule which is taken into consideration during the impact in the leg before wicket dismissals. Aaron Finch was baffled with the rule and admitted that they didnāt know the rule until the first Test in Dubai.
Late on the second day, Jon Holland pitched the ball in the right areas to pin Azhar Ali in front of the stumps. The vociferous appeal from the Aussies was turned out the umpire S Ravi as their skipper Tim Paine opted for a review. On the replays, everything was going their way but the fact that Azhar had put a long stride down the track while defending the ball, saved him.
The hawk-eye showed that the impact was more than three metres and the umpireās call stayed as it is much to the frustration of the visitors. This was the second time they were denied of the wicket as Haris Sohail was given a lifeline while batting on 51 in the series opener and went on to score 110 runs.
Weāve got to deal with it
Aaron Finch, after the end of dayās play, termed the rule as āstrangeā and also went on to add that they were only made aware of the same in the first Test. However, the Aussie opener also accepted the rule as it is and stayed put with the fact that they will have to deal with it.
āWe didnāt really know about it until the last Test, about the three metres. Pitching in line, hitting in line, hitting the stumps ā to me, thatās strange. Obviously, I understand the element of predicting the path of the ball. Thatās something thatās gone against us a couple of times, but thatās the game, thatās the rule, and weāve just got to deal with it,ā he said.
