Australia are scheduled to play a couple of Tests followed by three T20Is against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Prior to that, Australia will also play a four-day practice-match against Pakistan ‘A’ at International Cricket Council (ICC) Academy in Dubai, starting September 29. The first Test gets underway on October 7 at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

In the meantime, Cricket Australia (CA) has announced the playing eleven for the tour match. It may also be an indication to the likely team which will be a part of the Test series. Previously, Justin Langer, Australia’s head coach mentioned that the selections for the tour will be made on the basis of the Australia ‘A’ limited-overs and first-class matches on Indian soil.

No Peter Siddle in the eleven

The team for the warm-up match will be captained by Tim Paine, who has been leading the national team ever since Steve Smith got himself tangled into the ball-tampering scandal in Cape Town. However, he hasn’t been able to win a single match for Australia. Right-hander Aaron Finch has been a fulcrum of the limited-overs setup for quite some time now.

But, red-ball cricket is a different ballgame and Finch would be mindful of the same. Matthew Renshaw, who developed a finger injury while playing for Somerset in England’s county cricket, returns to the eleven. The middle-order is an experienced one with the likes of Usman Khawaja and Shaun Marsh in their ranks. Travis Head is also a part of the eleven.

Mitchell Starc was suffering from a bone stress reaction in his right leg and he would be eager to stamp his authority. The four players who missed out, despite being in the squad, are Ashton Agar, Brendan Doggett, Marcus Labuschagne and veteran Peter Siddle.

Here’s the eleven

Tim Paine (c), Aaron Finch, Matthew Renshaw, Usman Khawaja, Shaun Marsh, Travis Head, Mitch Marsh, Michael Neser, Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Jon Holland
