Veteran Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel has been drafted in the India A team. He will be joining the team as a back up for wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant. The India A side is currently playing the New Zealand A team in Vijaywada. Pant, the hard hitting batsman, is reportedly down with fever. He has been advised complete rest by the medical officers.

As per the reports in ESPNcricinfo, the illness of the young batting sensation is not very serious. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) does not want to take any chances in this regard. Hence, the move to call a back up player for him is seen as a precautionary measure. Also, the move sounded prudent since there were no other full time wicketkeepers in the announced India A squad.

During the third day of the first unofficial Test last week, Bengal’s Sudip Chatterjee took the role of wicketkeeper when Pant had to walk back to the dressing to get medical assistance. The second unofficial Test between the two sides will start on September 30. It will be a day-night pink ball affair.

Likely to see both players in action

If Rishabh Pant recovers before the match, it is very much likely that both Parthiv Patel and Pant will feature in the match. Pant has been in a rollicking form in the recent times. Ever since he has had a dream Ranji Trophy season last year, the Delhi batsman has not looked back. Recently, he hit a quick 41-ball 67 in the first unofficial Test against the New Zealand A side.

The match was easily pocketed by the hosts. India A had won the match by an innings and 31 runs. Talking about Parthiv Patel, the veteran keeper has been in a good form too. He recently went past the 10000 run mark in the First Class cricket while playing in the Duleep Trophy earlier this month.
