23-year old Australian pacer Pat Cummins is certainly excited about getting his international career back on track after missing out for the better part of the previous seasons due to multiple injuries. Cummins, who has been tipped by many to shine for Australia has been plagued by injuries, for the most part, something that has stalled his ever-blossoming international career.

Pat Cummins burst onto the scene as a fiery and pacey 18-year old pacer when he made his international debut against South Africa almost five years ago. He was tipped by many to achieve big things in his career when he kicked-off his career with an inspired performance of 6/79 in the second innings in the same match against the Proteas. Although the 23-year old was tipped to make a comeback in the upcoming Quadrangular series for the Australia ‘A’ outfit, it became clear that the Aussie selectors felt that he needed to spend more time in rehab.

It was unfortunate to miss Australia A but a chance to have a bit more of a pre-season and a bit more control and a slower build up towards the Matador Cup,” Cummins was quoted as saying on the Cricket NSW website on Wednesday (August 10). “I know that when I do play Matador I’ve tried everything and done everything in the nets and training that I wanted to, to get ready for games and I’m not rushing back.

“I feel like come game one of the Matador I’ll be as well prepared as I ever have been for a tournament,” he added.

The last time Cummins played international cricket was for Australia in 2015. However, a stress fracture to his lumbar saw him face the prospect of being ruled out for almost a year. “The first probably six months I was doing a lot of rehab in the gym,” he said. “The past couple of months bowling on turf, bowling towards a full run-up, it just feels like I’m getting ready for a normal season, which is nice.

“Now we’re closer to the Matador and competition, it’s about trying to find some form, try a few slower balls and yorkers, and other things,” he added. “I couldn’t be happier with how they’re coming out and just can’t wait to get a game.”
