Australia’s Pat Cummins has had concerns over his fitness for a long time now. For the all the talent he possesses, injuries always bring hard luck to him. His only Test for Australia remains was his debut back in 2011. Since then he has had a bunch of injuries. He is scheduled for a meeting with Cricket Australia after the series misery against Sri Lanka.

Cummins has been excessively used by Australia in the limited-overs cricket and has been held back when it comes the longer format of the game. There is a new concern over his participation in the upcoming Indian Premier League, where he was grabbed by the Delhi Daredevils for a hefty fee of INR 4.5 crores. The meeting is going to be about his fitness and he participating in the Indian extravaganza.

He was not picked for the India tour as the selectors want him absolutely fit for the Ashes. The 23-year-old hasn’t played a Sheffield Shield match in over six years and was planning to play one this year. However, his non-participation would be a huge loss for the franchise as well as Pat. His manager Neil Maxwell believes that Cricket Australia should have informed Cummins about this earlier.

Maxwell believes that his player is fit and ready to go. He told The Age on Tuesday about the same. He said: “It comes down to a number of factors – health and well-being, fitness levels and there is a commercial element there as well. But if it is going to be raised, it would have been nice to have been raised before he was given an auction price….because it would hurt a lot more to be pulling out.”

Neil was of the opinion that he and Cummins would like to know what CA has planned for him. “Obviously, (I) am keen to work with them but, at the same time, we, obviously, would want to understand what the plans are. Cricket Australia have constantly pushed that players are choosing to play in their own leave time, so I assume that would be Pat’s choice at the end of the day,” he opined.
