The problem with the version was that 100 isn't a multiplier of 6.

Earlier in May, the England Cricket Board (ECB) contemplated over bringing another radical change to the game of cricket. They introduced the 100-ball cricket, which is a new format for their city based competition to be launched in 2020. ECB Chairman Colin Graves reckoned that the format is being introduced to attract more audience to watch the game.

The problem with the version was that 100 isn’t a multiplier of 6 and one can’t make it a 5-ball over contest as in that scenario, the match will consist of 20 overs. Hence a tactic was churned out where 15 six-ball overs and then a 10-ball over will be bowled to complete. However, Daryl Mitchell, the Chairman of Professional Cricketers’ Association (PCA), reckons the 10-ball over to be unfeasible.

“There’s not really an easy way”- Mitchell

“People who are going to bowl at the death are concerned about that because of the physical demands and mental well-being. I don’t think it would be possible to ask, say, Tymal Mills to bowl a 10-ball over at 92-93 miles per hour, especially if you throw in the odd wide or no ball,” Mitchell was quoted as saying in King Cricket.

He has also put forth a solution to the complexity which proposes to start and end the innings with an eight-ball over and 14 six-ball overs in between. Fast bowlers run in and a lot of energy drains out of their system while shooting in the deliveries. Hence, Mitchell can’t be blamed for remaining apprehensive about the newest baby of the illustrious sport.

“Maybe we could have eight-ball overs at the start and end of an innings to make up the hundred. There’s not really an easy way to get to a hundred balls and the fact it’s not divisible by six does cause a problem,” the Chairman added.
