Ousted Pakistan batsman Umar Akmal was never short of controversies in his career so far. In a recent TV interview, the 28-year-old batsman revealed that he was offered a huge amount of money to spot-fix the game against India in the 2015 World Cup. However, Akmal rejected the offer but failed to report it to the board’s Anti Corruption Unit.

Umar Akmal went on to add that he was asked to skip the matches against India. He was also offered $200,000 money to leave two deliveries in the World Cup game against India. The Indian side won that game by 76 runs. However, Akmal is determined to represent his country and he stated that he never wants to approve such offers.

“I was once offered $200,000 for leaving two deliveries. Similar offers have been made in the past as well. In the matches with India I’ve been told to make some excuse and opt out of the game for which I’d be paid but I have told those people that I am committed to Pakistan and to not approach me ever with such offers,” Akmal said in the TV interview.

In the latest revelation, Pakistan Cricket Board’s Anit Corruption Unit has asked the discarded batsman to be summoned on 27th June. He has got two days time to respond to the comments he made. As per the rules, player whenever he’s approached by a fixer or a bookie, he should immediately report it to the board’s ACU.

Here’s PCB Media’s tweet that read, ‘Notice served to Umar Akmal. He has been asked to appear before PCB Anti Corruption Unit (ACU) on June 27.’

Earlier in 2017, during the ODI series against Sri Lanka in UAE, Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed was approached by a bookie who made a spot-fixing offer to him. Sarfraz rejected the offer and immediately reported the approach to the Pakistan Cricket Board’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU).
