Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is coming down heavily at the cricketers who have been found guilty in the spot-fixing scandal in their T20 league. Sharjeel Khan, Khalid Latif and Shahzaib Hasan have been suspended for a significant period of time. However, another tainted cricketer in the case, Nasir Jamshed, has now been banned for 10 years for his role in the spot-fixing in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
According to the reports in Dawn News, the 28-year-old cannot be part of any kind of cricket for the next 10 years. PCB had already cleared that they will not tolerate anything which brings the game into disrepute and had levelled down the charges on the left-handed batsman. They had filed a charge sheet in May with six allegations on the opener who resides in the United Kingdom now.
Guilty of influencing other cricketers
Nasir Jamshed was alleged to persuade four cricketers through an agent, Mohammad Yousuf, to become part of a spot-fixing scandal in the second edition of the PSL. He was charged with obstructing and not cooperating with the tribunal inquiry and also failing to inform the authorities about being approached by bookmakers to fix matches. Though he had termed all the charges against him as flimsy and ridiculous.
He was suspended for 1 year in December last year during the spot-fixing probe and it is not yet known if this period will be considered in his 10-year ban. Nasir last played for Pakistan in the ODI against the United Arab Emirates in March 2015. Overall he represented his country in 2 Tests, 48 ODIs and 18 T20 Internationals. He failed to impress in the opportunities presented to him and eventually went out of favour after the 2015 ICC World Cup.
It remains to be seen now if he will appeal against the ban much like the other cricketers have done so far. Recently, the ban of Shahzaib Hasan was increased from one year to four years after he had appealed against the original suspension.
