Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has suspended Nasir Jamshed for one year in the ongoing spot-fixing probe in Pakistan Super League (PSL). He was found guilty of not cooperating with the board during the investigation thereby violating its code for “obstruction and non-cooperation” in the spot-fixing case. However, his ban is likely to increase as the main charges aren’t laid against Jamshed as he was also involved in the spot-fixing during PSL earlier this year.

The 28-year-old cricketer was charged with violating two articles 2.4.6 and 2.4.7, of the PCB’s anti-corruption code. He is also apparently believed to have played a central role in the spot-fixing scandal in PSL in the last season. Other players involved in the matter are already suspended and the probe is ongoing against Nasir and Shahzaib Hasan. Nasir Jamshed was arrested by UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) in February and he was also provisionally suspended by the board for violating the anti-corruption code.

Ban likely to increase

PCB has acted severely against the players involved in the spot-fixing scandal and also against the one who failed to report the corruption in time to the board. Its anti-corruption tribunal declared Nasir Jamshed guilty of obstructing and not cooperating the board in the investigation and banned him for one year. Though the former cricketer and analyst of the game Sikander Bakht believed that he should be punished more severely than the other players.

“The duration of the ban isn’t enough. In my opinion, the facilitator is the biggest culprit when it comes to spot-fixing and should be punished more severely than the players,” he said while speaking to the Geo News. There are huge chances now that his cricketing career might get over due to his alleged involvement in the scandal which hit Pakistan cricket during PSL earlier this year.
