Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Shaharyar Khan mentioned that the PCB will mull over Sri Lanka being a probable host for Pakistan’s home series against Bangladesh. Khan, who was recently at a tri-party meeting in Colombo with his counterparts from the BCB and SLC, confirmed that the board will look to shift from the UAE to Sri Lanka if Bangladesh oblige to the proposed series.

“We could play either in Bangladesh or in a third country, which is acceptable to both sides, or we could even do it in Sri Lanka,” was quoted as saying to Geo TV. His decision comes on the back of the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s declination of an invitation by the PCB to play two T20Is in Pakistan. Bangladesh were hesitant to travel to Pakistan citing security issues.

Up until now, Pakistan have taken UAE for their surrogate home as teams have refused to play international cricket anywhere in Pakistan. Following an attack on the touring Sri Lankan team in March 2009, international cricket has dried up in Pakistan.

The PCB are possibly insistent to host the home series against Bangladesh in Sri Lanka because of financial reasons. As the series isn’t likely to generate much revenue, the PCB will not be able to afford to play the series in a country like the UAE.

As of now, there is no opening in the current Future Tour Program laid out by the ICC for Pakistan’s home series against Bangladesh.

What comes as a big stride for the Pakistan Cricket Board is that its Bangladesh counterpart has agreed to send a high-performance team to tour Pakistan this year in July.

Both the BCB and the PCB are currently making efforts to create a window for Pakistan’s home series against Bangladesh. In such a case where India refuses to honour its commitment of playing against Pakistan, an opportunity will open up in the months of November and December.
