Ahmed Shehzad has been provisionally suspended by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for failing the dope test conducted by them. Earlier they had issued a charge sheet against him after the results of the test were confirmed by the Indian lab earlier this week. The cricketer was found guilty of consuming the banned substance ‘Marijuana’ and the traces of the same were found in his urine sample taken in May during the Pakistan Cup in Faisalabad.

There were reports earlier that a few influential people are trying to save Shehzad due to which the PCB was not taking any quick action on him. But later it was revealed that the board had asked the Anti-Doping Agency of Pakistan to constitute an Independent Review Board. They received the reports from the panel on Tuesday which is when PCB cleared the name in the public.

Shehzad could be banned up to 2 years?

The PCB has issued a statement in which they have given Ahmed Shehzad the deadline until July 18 to advise them whether he wishes to have his sample B tested by July 27. “The PCB has also provisionally suspended Shehzad pending the outcome of the charges,” the statement also read.

So far, the right-handed batsman hasn’t commented anything on the matter and he faces a ban up to 2 years according to the Times of India. The PCB officials confirmed the same while saying that he will be banned if he fails to satisfy the board with his response. He has been given 14 days time to respond to the charges laid on him.

Shehzad is not the first cricketer to fail the dope test as Yasir Shah was earlier tested positive in February 2016 and the ICC had banned him for three years after leggie had pleaded guilty to the charge. Apart from him, the likes of Shoaib Akhtar, Mohammad Asif, Abdul Rehman and Reza Hasan have also faced bans for the similar offence.
