Indian opener Rohit Sharma has terrific humour. So much that he has been even praised by his captain, Virat Kohli, for his wittiness. In the past, fans have witnessed several incidents involving him where his humour has left people in splits. During the 2019 Cricket World Cup, there were two such instances when Sharma’s answers in the press conference saw the entire room laughing.

One of those incidents happened a day ahead of MS Dhoni’s birthday, when Rohit was asked if the team had any plans for the celebrations. After the last league stage match of the 2019 Cricket World Cup for India, which took place on July 6, Rohit found his way into the press conference. A journalist asked him to talk about Dhoni’s birthday and say something about it.

Rohit first asked the journalist what kind of response he was expecting. After the journalist insisted for a while, Sharma smiled and said, “Kya bolun yaar, birthday mein kya bola jaata hai?, Happy Birthday (What should I say, what do we say on birthdays?, Happy Birthday).” After the journalist asked if the team had any plans, to which Sharma gave another funny reply.

Abhi humein pata nahi hai ki hum Manchester jaa rahe hain ya Birmingham“, he said. (We don’t whether we will be travelling to Manchester or Birmigham). Apart from that, he said that there will be a cake-cutting ceremony for the former skipper. Rohit further said, “photo bhejenge aapko,” which translates to “we will send the photos to you.”

On July 7th 2021, MS Dhoni celebrated his 40th birthday. On this occasion, ESPNcricinfo shared a two-year-old clip on their Instagram handle.

When Rohit Sharma was asked how can Pakistan solve their batting crisis

Apart from that one incident, there was another instance where the journalists laughed their hearts out when Sharma spoke. This happened in the post-match press conference when India played Pakistan during that tournament.

A Pakistani journalist asked Sharma if he had any advice for his colleagues from the Pakistan team to come out of a batting crisis which they were going through at the time. To this, the Mumbai batter replied saying, “Agar main Pakistan ka coach bana tab batayunga, abhi toh kya hi batayunga,” which means, “If I become the coach of Pakistan, I will tell them, what is the point of saying now.”
