Kings XI Punjab skipper Glenn Maxwell played an aggressive and scintillating inning at the Indore Holkar stadium to see his team past the finish line against the Rising Pune Supergiant franchise. The Rising Pune Supergiant who won their first match convincingly against the Mumbai Indians went in as clear favourites in the match and Glenn Maxwell had the added responsibility of leading the side in the same.

With below average performances in the previous years, the Kings XI Punjab went on the field this year with the hopes of at least making it to the top four. And they had a perfect start to their campaign courtesy to the brilliant innings by Glenn Maxwell which was superbly supported by South African batsman David miller. Miller took his time to settle down but Maxwell was in the mood of hitting some big shots right from the start as Kings Xi won the match by 6 wickets.

Kings XI was by far the superior team in all the departments of the game. They first bowled excellently and followed it up with a good performance with the bat on a pitch which favoured the bowlers much. Though they lost early wickets in the match the skipper made it sure that the team gets off to a winning start in a season where they would be definitely fancying their chances with the kind of squad they have.

Having said that, Glenn Maxwell is Crictrackers’ Player Of The Match.

Rotated his bowlers well

Glenn Maxwell who is leading his franchise for the first time made good use of his bowlers in their first match as his team was successful in restricting the Rising Pune Supergiant to 163. None of his bowlers was too expensive and they managed to pick up six of their opponent’s wickets. He looked confident as a captain and should be given credit for the fact how he guided a young bowling line-up which comprised mostly of Indian bowlers.

It looks like Maxwell is going to excel more as the tournament progresses and Kings XI certainly looks like the team to beat. Though it is too early to make a call but if Kings XI Punjab find a way to become more consistent this could well be their year.

Played a captain’s innings

The Aussie led from the front throughout the match and saw his team emerge victorious at the end. His team was in serious trouble when the big hitter from Australia came into bat. But Maxwell showed no signs of fear whatsoever and was in his typical aggressive mood right from the start. Struggling at 85/4 the Kings XI Punjab needed a crucial partnership which would steady their ship and that came from David Miller and the skipper himself.

Maxwell who is leading a team for the first time ever in his career proved to the world that he has the ability to do the same and did not let the burden of captaincy affect his batting.  He stayed calm and cool just what is require of a captain in a tense situation like they were in.

Scored the winning runs for his team

Maxwell’s devastating batting saw off a determined Rising Pune Super Giant bowling line up that almost dismantled the Kings XI batting line-up. Maxwell went onto the pitch determined and hit 2 boundaries and 4 sixes which got the Pune franchise on the back foot. After Maxwell came in it was only a matter of time before the Kings XI clinched the all-important match. He also did not spare Imran Tahir who had performed excellently against the Mumbai Indians as he hit the bowler for two huge sixes.

The Australian batsman reached his tally of 44 runs off 20 balls at a staggering strike rate of 220. The hard-hitting batter was well supported by David Miller who took his time to settle in but gradually looked comfortable. He managed a score of 30 of 27 balls but the winning runs came from the captain as he took a single off Ben Stokes to complete the well-deserved victory.

Glenn Maxwell’s heroics on the field earned him 4 stars out of 5 as he played a leader’s knock helping his team get off the mark in the 10th season of the IPL.
