A plane crash took place nearly 30 km away from Team India’s hotel in Sydney where the players are serving their quarantine period before the international matches get underway on November 27. On Saturday, November 14, the plane crashed onto a busy sporting field, but the two occupants of the plane got away with minor injuries.

As per reports, the plane’s engine stopped working mid-air and the vehicle dropped on the field at Cromer Park where cricket and football matches were taking place. The incident took place around 4:30 PM (local time). The plane, reportedly, missed a sporting shed where 12 people were there.

“I yelled out to the guys in the shed, I just said run. They started running,” Greg Rollins, senior vice president of the Cromer Cricket Club, was quoted as saying in stuff.co.nz.

Occupants taken to the hospital

In order to help out the occupants, and not fearing for their own safety and well-being, Rollins and two more players ran towards the plane. “The plane started to smoke and I thought we had to get these guys out. The plane looked like it was going to blow up.

“The victims were still conscious but they were ‘not in a good way’. One guy, his face wasn’t good. They hit hard enough to do a lot of damage but they’re alive, that’s the main thing,” Rollins mentioned.

During the accident, a 24-year-old man was taken to the hospital after he suffered multiple broken bones. Another man in his 30s was carried off in an ambulance after he complained of severe back pain. A thorough investigation into the plane crash will be conducted at the earliest.

As far as the Indian team are concerned, they reached Sydney on Thursday, November 12, two days after the completion of the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL). The players are currently putting up at The Pullman Hotel, which also happens to be the base of the rugby team New South Wales Blues.

Virat Kohli, the Indian captain, has reportedly gotten a special suite of Australian rugby legend Brad Fittler. India’s campaign starts with the three-match ODI and T20I series followed by four Tests, which starts on December 17 in Adelaide.
