'Used to take 3 painkillers' - Mohammed Shami reveals he played with a fractured knee in 2015 World Cup

Amid Coronavirus, the cricketers are busy spending most of their time on social media by interacting with their fans, talking to their teammates in live sessions etc. Recently, Yuvraj Singh, Rohit Sharma and many other cricketers were spotted discussing important topics in live Instagram sessions.
Now, Mohammad Shami has also joined the bandwagon and was involved in a candid session with former Indian pacer Irfan Pathan. During the session, Shami revealed that he played with a broken knee in the 2015 World Cup.
In the 2015 World Cup, Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav emerged as the strike bowlers for Team India. They set the stage on fire with their quick bowling. The former grabbed 17 wickets out from 7 matches at an average of 17.29 and ended as the second-leading wicket-taker for his team whereas the latter took 18 wickets at 17.83 with 2 four-wicket hauls.
‘Doctors used to take out fluid from the knee’: Mohammed Shami
The duo was responsible behind the brilliant performance of Team India in the mega-event. In that tournament, the Men in Blue managed to reach the semi-finals. But ended up losing the crucial game against Australia by a big margin of 95 runs.
In a live Instagram session, Mohammed Shami said that he had sustained a knee injury in the 2015 World Cup. As per him, he could not even walk after the matches. But played throughout the tournament and it was only possible due to confidence shown by Nitin Patel.
The 29-year-old also recited that his knee was broken in the very first match. He also added that the size of his knee and thigh was the same at that time. The doctors used to take out fluid from his knee every day. Moreover, he had to take three painkillers in day to overcome his pain during the tournament.
“I had a knee injury during the 2015 World Cup. I couldn’t walk after the matches I played throughout the tournament with the injury. I played the 2015 WC because of Nitin Patel’s confidence. The knee broke in the first match itself. My thighs and knees were the same sizes, doctors used to take out fluid from them every day. I used to take 3 painkillers,” Shami told Irfan Pathan during a candid chat on Instagram live.
