The inaugural edition of the T10 Cricket League is all set to get underway in the UAE. The tournament will see six teams competing for the ultimate glory across the three days of high intensity action. Each side in the match will get to face only 10 overs and this is the shortest format of the game. The tournament kick starts on December 13 and the finals of the T10 Cricket League will be played on December 17.

Recently, as per the reports in Khaleej Times, Ali Tumbi of Aqua Properties, who are one of the owners of the Maratha Arabians team, remarked that a centurion in the competition will get an apartment in Dubai. Moreover, any player who scores a fifty will walk away with a Hublot Rolex watch. When asked if it possible for a player to achieve the feat in 10 over matches, Tumbi noted that they have the players who can do that.

“Any batsman who can hit a century will get a studio apartment worth Dhs 500,000 in Dubai. I can’t speak for other teams, but from our team Alex Hales, Virender Sehwag and even Kamran Akmal can achieve it. Akmal has a 150 from 70 balls so if it comes down to 100 from 40 balls it is possible. We hope someone can hit a century and get an apartment,” quoted Ali Tumbi.

On the shortest format

Commenting on the format being shortest in the sport, Ali mentioned that T10 Cricket is the shortest that one can have in the sport. He cited that the games that last for shorter durations fetch maximum crowds. For instance, soccer lasts for 90 minutes and Basketball has four quarters of 15 minutes each. Hence, the patience factor is less for the audiences and that makes these sports global successes. He feels T10 cricket is here to stay.

“This (T10) is the limit. If you see all global games like soccer (it is 90 minutes), basketball (is four quarters of 15 minutes), so majority of these games which are very popular around the world are shorter game formats. This was a challenge for cricket. Now the world has changed, everything is moving fast so with that the game of cricket too needs to keep up with the pace with the audiences,” mentioned Tumbi.

“People don’t have patience. In T20 also it’s the first 5 overs and last 5 overs which are entertaining so in between people look to switch channels. In T10 there is no channel switching. Here every ball counts and more exciting is the ‘dot’ ball. One thing different about this format is in a day you will have more than one T10 match and at the same venue which means full day entertainment,” he added further.
