Police burst IPL betting gang; new mode of operation cracked: Betting seems to have got adjoined to the action and drama the Indian Premier League (IPL) brings into cricket. While Police around the country is on alert during the IPL to track and burst any betting gang that is operating to nail down all those who are involved and stop it from growing into a scandal as big as the spot fixing fiasco.
As reported by the Indian Express, the division number 2 police busted a gang which was undertaking betting and other illegal activities on IPL on Friday.
The Cop’s claimed that the betters’ caught followed a new mode of operation as they did all the activities from within a moving car and constantly changed locations to prevent getting noticed or caught by the police. They reportedly recovered from the accused Rs 22,000 in cash, three mobile phones, one diary and a Tavera car.
Those caught were later identified by the Police as Sukhbir Singh alias Sunny and Amandeep Singh alias Bhima of Khudd Mohalla. Sunny was found to be caught for the second time and it was a repeated offence for him, as he was earlier caught in another betting case back in 2009.
It was a tip off that led the police to the gang and helped in nabbing them said Assistant Commissioner of Police (central) Satish Malhotra while addressing the media.
They are neither youngsters nor people lured into this dark world, all the accused are aged in forties and have been a part of the betting world for 5 years now.
SHO of the division no. 2 Surinder Mohan said that the accused had won Rs 1.5 lakh from the bets he placed on CSK v MI match held on the 9th of May i.e. Friday the payments off which were to be collected by Saturday May 11.
The team is now also in search for other members who have been operating with the gang from the links and names they have acquired from the diary of one of the members.
