Dinesh Chandimal was a part of the Sir Lankan collapse as he was also one who lost his wicket to what he called ‘poor short selection’ on the second day’s play against the Proteas at Port Elizabeth. The Proteas ran through the top-order before the Lankans were able to pull things together before collapsing once more.

Speaking at the close of play, Chandimal stated that there was no plan to score runs quickly despite the fact that Kusal Perera was scoring at an amazing rate. However, the shot that he played to get himself out was something terribly bad as it was rather unfortunate, to say the least.

“There was no specific plan to score fast,” said Chandimal on Tuesday (December 27). “We know that that we use Kusal Perera to score quickly, but unfortunately he got out early. This is a tough wicket to bat on. We did make some mistakes and gave them some easy wickets. We need to fight back tomorrow and get as close as we can to their score.”

“Since Kusal is playing at No. 3, I am given the wicketkeeping duties,” Chandimal added. “I can’t bat that high because otherwise I’d be tired from keeping. We’ve given some opportunities to the young guys in our team, and they didn’t take them today, but hopefully they will in the second innings.”

Chandimal went on to add a few words on Dhanajaya de Silva who managed to remain unbeaten at the close of play. “Dhananjaya is an opener, but we have a settled opening combination. He’s also very good when it comes to batting with the tail. If he can get us a few more runs, it will give us some momentum,” he added.
