Priyam Garg, who is regarded as the rising star of Indian cricket, paved his way into the U19 team after delivering stellar performances in the U14 and U16 levels. The UP-born lad has also achieved a rare feat of scoring two double tons in U16s, U19s and Ranji Trophy in his career.

The youngster has been served with new challenges in his career. Garg is set to captain India U19 in a one-day series against Afghanistan U19, beginning at the Ekana Cricket Stadium B ground in Lucknow from November 22. Garg has been appointed the skipper’s role in a team consisting of many young prospects.

The 18-year-old has played 12 first-class matches yet and has gathered 867 runs at an impressive average of 66.69. Garg was named in the India Green team’s squad for the 2019–20 Duleep Trophy. He later broke into the India C squad for the 2019-20 Deodhar Trophy in October 2019.

After making his List A debut for Uttar Pradesh in 2018, the youngster scored 539 runs in 15 matches including a ton and three half-centuries. In December 2018, Garg grabbed the headlines after scoring his maiden double century in first-class cricket against Tripura. Amongst a young lot of prospects, Garg is touted to make it big in the near future. The right-handed batsman will be eager to carry his run-scoring spree in the international circuit too.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued a statement while announcing the squads for the first two matches. The five-match series will be concluded on November 30. The side also has young talents like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Atharva Ankolekar in its arsenal.

The five-match series will be played at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium on November 22 24, 26, 28 and 30. Ahead of the ICC U19 2020 World Cup, the Indian side will be keen on experimenting with their starting XI for achieving the best possible combination.
