PSL 2018: Quetta Gladiators might release Ahmed Shehzad

The players' draft for the next edition of PSL will be held next month.

Quetta Gladiators, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise, might release their star player Ahmed Shehzad ahead of the third edition of the tournament. It is also being reported that the management is also considering to release some of the notable players along with Shehzad. The franchises have been told by the officials of the league to retain as many as 5 players from their 20-man squad by the first week of October.

The third edition of the famous league in Pakistan will see six teams competing for the ultimate glory, unlike the first couple of seasons when there were only 5 teams. The new franchise Multan Sultans has been added and will pick ten players at par with the other franchises of the league. The next season is set to be played in February 2018.

Player drafts process in October

The players’ draft process of the PSL is scheduled to be held in the second half of October. Gladiators have decided to retain their skipper Sarfraz Ahmed and the former England batsman, Kevin Pietersen. Also, the other notable players to be released are Umar Gul and Luke Wright.

“Umar Gul, Luke Wright, Saad Nasim, Nathan McCullum, Thisara Perera are other notable players to be released for the upcoming draft”, a franchise official told Scoreline Asia.

The official was also mentioned that they still have time to ponder on the players to be omitted and hinted that they might change the list at the last moment as well. “We still have time to ponder before submitting the final list however these are the likely omissions as we speak,” he added.

Recently, the franchise Quetta Gladiators had declared that the legend from West Indies Sir Vivian Richards is the lifetime member of the team. He has played a crucial role in mentoring the team and has gelled with the players so well. The team led by Sarfraz Ahmed have been the runners-up in both the editions and would like to go one step ahead in the upcoming season.
