PSL 2018: Twitter trolls Wahab Riaz for sporting a new look

The third edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL) commenced on Thursday with a star-studded opening ceremony at Dubai International Stadium. The debutants Multan Sultans locked horns with the defending champions Peshawar Zalmi in the season opener as the jam-packed Stadium braced themselves for the contest. There was plenty of buzz on social media as the tournament began and soon Wahab Riaz made headlines who was sitting the dressing room with his team batting first after losing the toss.

Wahab had sported a moustache like the former Australian pacer Mitchell Johnson who had tormented England in 2013/14 with a similar look. While it was a surprise for the cricket fans over the pacer’s new look, even his teammates were taken aback as Mohammad Hafeez also trolled him before the game. Also, Johnson pulled himself out of the PSL citing family reasons last month just before the IPL auctions.

Wahab inspired by Johnson?

Wahab Riaz himself revealed the reason for his new look and thanked Mitchell Johnson after knowing that it was similar to him. “Johnson is obviously the fastest bowler in the world. See, it’s good to be inspired by anyone for anything that benefits you. And, if I’m inspired by Mitchell, then I’d love to say thank you to him,” he told Geo.tv.

Though he was hilariously trolled over his new look, Wahab had a good outing with the ball in hand. He picked the wickets of Kumar Sangakkara and Ahmed Shehzad and returned with the figures of 2/19 from his four overs. Unfortunately, his team lost the game while defending a middling total of 151 runs courtesy a brilliant knock from Sangakkara and Shoaib Malik.

Earlier, the defending champions Peshawar Zalmi rode on the half-century of Hafeez who scored 59 off 52 deliveries after the top-order struggled to get going. The skipper Darren Sammy also blazed his way to 29 off 11 deliveries which helped them post a fighting total on the board.

Amidst the contest on the field, Twitterati was busy trolling Wahab Riaz hilariously.
