The fourth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is just weeks away from kick-off and although most part of the tournament will be held in venues in the UAE, the business end will be in Pakistan. The country has remained under suspension as a host for international games for a long time barring a few visits by low-ranked teams and the return of the PSL is seen as a positive for Pakistan cricket as a whole.
Another good news that came for the Pakistani fans this year originated from the Peshawar Zalmi camp. The Zalmi are set to hold their kit and anthem launch right in Pakistan this year, which will be for the first time, and Zalmi skipper Darren Sammy will be visiting the country for the occasion. Zalmi have won the tournament once – in 2017 – while they lost the final closely in 2018.
Zalmi kit & anthem launch at KP Governor House on Feb 4
Javed Afridi, the 33-year-old CEO of Haier Pakistan and owner of the Zalmi, announced the same on Twitter on Tuesday. He said the launching ceremony will be held at the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor House in Peshawar on February 4 and Sammy would be making a trip especially for the event. Such ceremonies have been held in the UAE, where the PSL has mostly been played, in the past.

The Zalmi will be playing their first game against Quetta Gladiators, who they beat in the final of the 2017 edition, in Dubai. Sammy’s side has some big names like Kieron Pollard, Misbah-ul-Haq and Wahab Riaz besides youngsters like Waqar Salamkheil.
In another development, last Sunday, Pakistan’s Minister of Information Fawad Chaudhry said the 2020 edition of the PSL will not be held in the UAE but entirely in Pakistan. The fact that international players like AB de Villiers have shown interest in playing in the PSL, even when it will be held on Pakistani soil, also boosted the confidence of the organisers as well as fans to see cricket making a full-fledged return to the country.
