Karachi Kings, captained by Imad Wasim, on Thursday, June 17, ceased their three-match losing streak after they beat the Lahore Qalandars by seven runs. It was also their maiden win in the second leg of the 2021 Pakistan Super League (PSL) at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Noor Ahmad picked up two wickets and gave away 19 runs to make sure that the Kings stay in contention for a berth in the playoffs. Their next match is against the Quetta Gladiators, on Saturday, June 19.
The Kings need a win to have any chance of qualifying for the next round. The Gladiators, on the other hand, are out of contention for a berth in the playoffs after the defeat to Multan Sultans.
Their net run rate of -1.913 suggests their dismal run in the tournament. In their previous game against the Kings in Karachi, the Sarfaraz Ahmed-led unit lost by seven wickets.
Playing combination for QUE vs KAR
Quetta Gladiators
Skipper Sarfaraz is currently the leading run-scorer for the Gladiators with 270 runs at an average of 38.57. But he hasn’t gotten much support from the others. Jake Weatherald has 123 runs to his name in the four games he has played.
Usman Khan also has 135 runs at a decent average of 27. Azam Khan’s form has been awful as well. In the bowling department, Khurram Shahzad has been the standout performer with six wickets and an economy rate of seven.
Mohammad Nawaz has done reasonably as well. Mohammad Hasnain has nine scalps, but with an economy rate of 8.89.
Predicted XI
Jake Weatherald, Usman Khan, Cameron Delport, Sarfaraz Ahmed (C and WK), Azam Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, Hassan Khan, Usman Shinwari, Khurram Shahzad, Mohammad Hasnain/Naseem Shah
Bench: Zahoor Khan, Saim Ayub, Zahid Mahmood, Naseem Shah/Mohammad Hasnain, Arish Ali Khan, Abdul Nasir, Jack Wildermuth, Anwar Ali
Karachi Kings
Babar Azam is currently the leading run-scorer of the tournament with 478 runs at an average of 79.66. In the previous game, he scored a half-century, though he was dropped three times.
Sharjeel Khan needs to up the ante a wee bit as the left-hander hasn’t quite fired thus far in the second leg. Martin Guptill’s return to form would give the Kings a sigh of relief.
In the bowling department, Imad Wasim has been their standout bowler with seven scalps from nine games. Noor Ahmad bowled brilliantly last time and his confidence would be high. Amir needs to start finding his form, meanwhile.
Predicted XI
Sharjeel Khan, Babar Azam, Martin Guptill, Najibullah Zadran, Chadwick Walton (wk), Imad Wasim (C), Danish Aziz, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Ilyas, Abbas Afridi, Noor Ahmad
Bench: Aamer Yamin, Waqas Maqsood, Thisara Perera, Arshad Iqbal, Qasim Akram, Mohammad Haris, Mohammad Abbas, Zeeshan Malik
