The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is currently underway where six teams are fighting to win the third edition of the tournament. The event is currently being hosted in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after which the Final will be hosted at the iconic Karachi International Stadium. Meanwhile, the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) starts in a month’s time where players from several nations grace their presence.
However, the tournament is being seen as a detriment by the owners of the franchise. As per them, the participating players are more attracted towards playing in the Indian domestic tournament. A source mentioned that some of its players have cited injuries as a reason for dropping out of a game, Joffra Archer, the Barbados-born all-rounder, is one of them.
IPL- a roadblock to PSL
They also highlighted that the players aren’t giving their 100 percent in order to be fully fit for the Indian Premier League. “Joffra Archer is one example. He is playing for Quetta Gladiators and he pulled out of a crucial match and this didn’t exactly make the owners, management or fellow players happy,” the source was quoted as saying by Times Now.
Peshawar Zalmi also sounded unhappy as Dwayne Bravo, one of their star all-rounders, hasn’t yet shown up for them in this edition’s PSL. “It is not about the money but when you lose a player of high caliber it upsets the team’s plans,” another source told the media. Pakistan cricketer Salman Butt also signified the IPL as a platform to kick-start their career on an auspicious note.
“Top players would prefer to be in the IPL 100 percent fit and in fresh. Because if you perform there you get richer and noticed quickly.” Butt said. Dwayne Bravo and Joffra Archer will represent the Chennai Super Kings and the Rajasthan Royals in the eleventh season of the prestigious Indian domestic league.
