The Indian veteran Yuvraj Singh has been training hard in National Cricket Academy (NCA) from last few weeks to clear the yoyo fitness test. In the process, he hasn’t featured for Punjab in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season. The left-hander has only played one game scoring 62 runs across both the innings. However, questions are being raised within the Indian board over him for taking the domestic season for granted.

Yuvraj last donned India jersey in West Indies in the ODI series in June and since then has been out of favour of the selectors. He has also failed the yoyo fitness test after that which has been the primary reason for his exclusion. Though the cricketer is reportedly training at NCA without sustaining any injury and is also not undergoing rehabilitation which has not gone down well with some of the BCCI officials.

Is Yuvraj eyeing national comeback?

Yuvraj Singh has been training at the NCA at the expense of some competitive matches which is raising questions right now. “There aren’t any reports that Yuvraj is doing rehabilitation but we have come to know that he is doing exclusive fitness training to pass the YoYo test. Now whether taking Ranji Trophy for granted is a good thing or not, Yuvraj has to decide,” a senior BCCI told PTI on Wednesday.

“Does this mean that if he attains 16.1 (fitness parameter set by Indian team management) and is without any runs behind him, he will be selected for the Sri Lanka limited overs series?” he added. The other official took an example of Ishant Sharma who played for Delhi despite being part of the national team for the Test series.

“We heard that Yuvraj has told the Punjab team management that he has been asked by the Indian team to do fitness test whereas selectors have always stressed on Ranji Trophy performance. Look at Ishant Sharma. He is a part of Indian team but he was released a day before Kolkata Test so that he can play Ranji Trophy against Maharashtra,” he said.
