The Kings XI Punjab under the leadership of Glenn Maxwell outclassed the Rising Pune Supergiant in their first encounter of the season. The team excelled in all three departments of the game to see off a high profile Pune Side.

Kings XI Punjab’s fielding coach R.Sridhar is delighted with the victory of his side and spoke about the art of fielding which is a very significant factor in the shortest format of the game.

When asked about the difference in fielding in various formats of the game, Sridhar talked mostly about the intensity factor which comes into play. He said that in the shorter version of the game the intensity is much more and so is the aggressiveness.

“When it comes to the shorter format, we are looking at more intensity and more aggression. We have certain KPIs with which we can increase the intensity and aggression. We are also aware of the batsmen tendencies, conditions of the ground and where to place the fielders, etc. To increase the intensity, we have certain guidelines. So we try to stick to those guidelines to have high intensity through 20 overs, which again, is not a lot. In longer format, we have to be careful. We can’t have very high intensity throughout for four days for six hours each day,” Sridhar was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

Sridhar also seemed to be a big fan of Bengal wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha who struck a beautiful ton against the Aussies in the third test of the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar trophy and hailed him as the best wicketkeeper in the world right now.

The experienced fielding coach is also happy with the talents that are there in the squad and hopes to develop more as fielding unit. He feels that his team did not commit many errors in the field in the first game which is a very positive sign.

“I am very happy with how the fielding unit is and how the players have evolved over the last four-five years. We have the luxury of having some the best fielders in the world in Glenn Maxwell and David Miller, and then we have Mohit Sharma, who is the best fast-medium bowling fielder in the world by a huge margin. We also have some Indian youngsters, who are really good fielders. We have our fielding KPIs in place, and we are constantly assessing that. Apart from one miscommunication between T Natarajan and Manan Vohra (in the opening game against Rising Pune Supergiant), our fielding was good. We are pretty happy with the way we are evolving as a fielding unit and looking forward to getting better from here.”
