With the return of Ravi Shastri as the head coach of the Indian cricket team, the ‘trusted four’ are back in the ranks. The ‘trusted four’ obviously refers to Bharat Arun, Sanjay Bangar, R Sridhar and Ravi Shastri himself. While Sanjay Bangar and Sridhar were there as the batting and fielding coach respectively during Anil Kumble’s tenure too, Bharat Arun gets his spot back as Shastri is set to begin his second spell.

However, Bangar has been lifted to the role of an assistant coach and Sridhar will continue as the fielding coach. These four gentlemen will carry the responsibilities of curbing the fortunes of the team into positive ones till the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup.

The 47-year-old and the bowling coach Arun has been connected to the city of Hyderabad. While Sridhar hails from the very place and has represented the city in the Ranji trophy, Arun was the coach of Hyderabad’s Ranji team last year. Bharat Arun’s contributions towards the Hyderabad team has been immense as he played a crucial role in repairing and grooming the after the team found themselves in turmoil in the previous two seasons. His efforts and hard work saw the team break into the elite zone. Hyderabad will definitely miss Arun but it was bound to happen.

What Sridhar had to say:

According to Sridhar, who has been associated with the senior team for a long while now,  Virat Kohli and his men have their priorities sorted. He pointed out that the team is fully focusing on the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka. “Our focus will be on the 2019 World Cup. We have to work hard as a team. It is important that we remain focussed,’ he’ said.

“We have a good Test series in hand. Sri Lanka are always strong at home. As a fielding coach, we have to concentrate on taking sharp catches. We have a good set of close-in fielders like Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, KL Rahul, Abhinav Mukund and Rohit Sharma. Rahane had taken splendid catches in the slips in the last series. Rahul and Pujara have looked sharp in short leg and silly point positions. They have to convert half chances, particularly against the spinners,’’ added the Indian fielding coach.

Sridhar looked content with the performances of the Indian players as fielders in big tournaments. He lauded the fast bowlers for showing eagerness and swiftness on the field. “There were odd misses but overall we have come up with good run outs and there were few splendid catches. Fast bowlers like Umesh Yadav, Shami and others have shown agility in the outfield. My job is to make the team as one of the best fielding outfit in the world,’’ he stated.

He went on to hail all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja as the most superior fielder in the world. “He is poetry in motion while fielding. He is alert, athletic and swift. He has a good pair of hands,’’ Sridhar concluded.
