Rahul Dravid answers queries by fans on Twitter: India U-19 coach and former great Rahul Dravid does not have a Twitter account. Before delivering the MAK Pataudi Lecture in New Delhi though, he took to Twitter, to answer questions from his fans with the #AskDravid hashtag. He tweeted from the BCCI‘s official Twitter account. Dravid revealed why he doesn’t use Twitter and gave some witty replies.
Members of both the Indian and South African team attended the lecture ahead of the fourth and final Test at Feroz Shah Kotla. Also in attendance was BCCI Secretary Anurag Thakur. The lecture was started in 2013 to honour the memory of former skipper Pataudi, who passed away in 2011. The inaugural one was delivered by Sunil Gavaskar in Chennai. The same year, Anil Kumble delivered this lecture for a second time in Mumbai. VVS Laxman was the speaker for this event in 2014 at Kolkata.
Dravid started by thanking the BCCI for this opportunity. “Good evening! Thank you to the BCCI for asking me to deliver the Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi Memorial Lecture this year, instituted in memory of one of the great leaders of Indian cricket,” said the former India captain. In an insightful and thoughtful lecture, he highlighted the importance of junior cricket and the need to give greater importance to it. He urged everyone to look at cricket from a child’s eyes, at a beginners level and understand the complexities a kid playing cricket has to go through.
Sharing a moment he spent with the great MAK Pataudi he said, “After we won the Test series in England in 2007, and claimed the Pataudi Trophy, all of us were posing for photographs at the Oval with him.” Pataudi had congratulated Dravid stating, “I’m really proud of what you and your team have done, how you did it and what you have achieved.”
Dravid said, “It meant a lot to me to hear those words from someone of his stature in our game. It had been 21 years since India last won a series in England and it had been a huge victory for all of us in the team, for Indian cricket and for its fans.”
