The countdown to the first edition of Royal Colts has begun with an overwhelming response from young cricket enthusiasts across the country signing up for the trials. Royal Colts is a grassroots programme launched by Rajasthan Royals with an aim to unearth fresh talent and provide them with an opportunity to make a mark for themselves in the cricketing world.

The inaugural edition of Royal Colts will see an exciting display of talent amongst the budding cricketers. The trials start on October 11 at the Neerja Modi School in Jaipur.

The response to the trials has been fantastic, with registrations crossing 3000 entries within 9 days of online registration process commencing. Out of the total registrations, 60% alone are from the state of Rajasthan, followed by states like Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and North East.

Zubin Bharucha elated with the response

Zubin Bharucha, Head of Cricket at Rajasthan Royals was elated to see the response to the registrations and was also delighted to witness the enthusiasm in the kids. He also went on to say that all the deserving players will get enough opportunities to prove their mettle.

“It is incredible to see the response to the call for registrations for Royal Colts. Having so much cricketing talent to review will be a pleasure for the other selectors and me.  The level of enthusiasm that we have seen from kids across India for the trials has actually resulted in us changing our plans to now create two teams! We want to make sure that deserving candidates get a chance and we have the opportunity to develop them,” Bharucha said.

The registered candidates have been divided into batches and will be informed via email and SMS about their trial date, time and venue. Starting October 11, Rajasthan Royals’ scouting team will conduct trials for almost 600 candidates a day culminating in about 28 cricketers being selected at the end of the trials. The kids will then be divided into two teams of 14 players each, U-17 and U-19 and will be trained to play tournaments under the name “Royal Colts”.
