Ranji trophy 2015-2016: the major switches and transfers: Ace Mumbai batsman Wasim Jaffer will join Vidharbha in the coming Ranji season for 2015 – 2016. The likes of Ganesh Satish, S Badrinath and Jaffer will form a troika of Vidharbha’s strong batting line-up in the upcoming Ranji matches. Ranji Trophy is one of India’s premiere annual domestic cricket tournaments for the last eight decades in a row.
Jaffer is a veteran in the field having 19-year long experience in Ranji cricket. The experienced batsman is the leading scorer in Ranji matches. In fact, he has almost become a legend as far as domestic cricket matches in India are concerned. Wasim Jaffer is now all set to become the first batsman in the history to cross the five figure magical mark of 10,000-runs in Ranji career.
Wasim Jaffer is probably one the most elegant test openers who unfortunately could not play for India for long despite having astute technique and temperament. He was successful in India’s tour of West Indies in 2002 but could not cement his place. Since then the batsman solely focussed on Ranji matches and emerged as the most successful one. He is the leading scorer in Ranji matches with 9759 runs. He is also the highest century makers with 35 in his kitty.
Sarfaraz Khan, a young Mumbai all-rounder, will be soon playing for Uttar Pradesh in Ranji matches from this season onwards. Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) Joint Srcretary Dr. PV Shetty has confirmed that MCA has issued No Objection Certificate in this regard. Sarfaraz has thoroughly impressed the cricket experts and audiences with his stellar performance at this year’s IPL. The explosive middle-order batsman’s skill to play well under pressure brought him instant success.
His excellent performance for Royal Challengers Bangalore at the IPL 8 earned him lots of fans as well. The 17-year-old scored 111 runs in 13 matches at an average of 27.75. The batsman has only appeared in three Ranji matches for Mumbai team and scored just one half century. He is definitely a good cricketer in the making. Sometimes, he reminds us of 16-year-old Sachin Tendulkar of early 90s era with their striking similarity of height.
Pragyan Ojha, a well-known slow-left-arm bowler, who represented team India in international matches also, is shifting to Bengal team for the upcoming Ranji season. The spinner was caught-up in controversy due to his illegal arm movement. However, BCCI has recently given him the permission to play again. He will represent Bengal in the upcoming Ranji season. The talented spinner already picked more than 100 wickets in 24 tests that he played for India. He also has 361 wickets in his kitty out of 86 first class matches that he played so far.
