The decisive day of the of the fifth round of the Ranji Trophy 2016-17 saw top teams register comprehensive wins and earn crucial points. Mumbai was the first to finished their game today. Needing only 24 runs to win the match against Railways. It was a highly comprehensive win from the defending champions after levelling two of their previous matches.
Punjab also performed similarly and was not required to break any sweat today as they completed a comfortable 7 wicket win over the listless Uttar Pradesh who were bowled out for just 95 in the second innings. Arup Das continued his fabulous run with the ball and claimed successive five wicket hauls to help Assam beat Saurashtra by 9 wickets. After picking up 7 wickets in the first innings, Das came back and picked 5/21 and bundled Saurashtra for just 81 and set his team a target of just 66 runs.
Tamil Nadu reached the top of the ranking table in Group A after it registered an easy victory over Baroda beating them by an innings and 44 runs. Baroda could muster only 200 runs in after being made to follow-on after getting rattled for just 93 runs batting in reply to TN’s first innings total of 337 runs.
