On the penultimate day of Round 3 of the Ranji Trophy 2016/17, Karnataka managed to beat Delhi by an inning and 160 runs. Karnataka were in absolute control of the game played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata as they first bowled out Delhi for a paltry score of 90 in the first innings and then piled on 414 runs in reply.

In the last inning, Krishnappa Gowtham who picked a three-wicket haul in the first innings finished with a fifer and Delhi were all out for 164. Karnataka did not just secure a win but also earned the bonus point.

The other two teams who have placed themselves in a very comfortable position at the end of day 3 are Bengal and Goa. While Bengal has a 315-run second innings lead over Punjab in their account with Manoj Tiwary still at the crease Services trail Goa by 339 runs. The Himachal Pradesh team is in trouble and it looks pretty much certain that Tripura will impose a win over them in this round as they still have 219 runs in hand and HP have 9 wickets to spare.

Akhil Hirwadkar continued his good run with the bat from the second day and remained unbeaten on 136 after the Mumbai top order completely failed against a strong Madhya Pradesh bowling attack led by Ishwar Pandey. Here is all the action that happened on day 3  of the Ranji Trophy round 3.
