Young batter Sarfaraz Khan continued his brilliant run with the bat in the ongoing 2021-22 Ranji Trophy by smashing his fourth hundred on June 23 (Thursday). Representing Mumbai, the right-handed batter brought up his ton against Madhya Pradesh with a boundary down the ground. However, more than this brilliant knock, Sarfaraz’s celebrations garnered the limelight.

After taking 190 balls to reach the milestone, an emotional Sarfaraz broke down in tears and punched the air in delight. His celebration majorly became a talking point among netizens as he did Sidhu Moosewala’s signature step  ‘thappi’. Moosewala was a prominent Punjabi singer who died recently after being gunned down by some goons.

Meanwhile, the right-handed batter completed the landmark on the bowling of Kumar Kartikeya who bowled a full and tossed-up delivery just outside off which allowed Sarfaraz to free his arms and send the ball over the bowler’s head. He then slapped his thigh and took in the applause from the crowd. The clip of his celebration went viral in no time as Twitterati hailed him for paying tribute to the late singer.

Notably, Sarfaraz has scored some big runs in the current edition of the Ranji Trophy. The right-handed batter scored 275 runs against Saurashtra, 165 against Odisha, 153 against Uttarakhand before stroking another century in the finals. Not only that, Sarfaraz took his run tally in the 2021-22 Ranji Trophy season beyond the 900-run mark and has also bettered his previous his 928 runs from the 2019-20 season.

Talking about the match, Mumbai won the toss against Madhya Pradesh and chose to bat. Mumbai openers Prithvi Shaw and Yashasvi Jaiswal gave an excellent start to the team and the middle-order also chipped in with some vital contributions. However, Sarfaraz was the main hero for his side as he stroked an excellent century and ensured that his team crosses the 350-run mark in their first innings.

For MP, Anubhav Agarwal and Gaurav Yadav have scalped three wickets each so far. Kartikeya (one wicket) and Saransh Jain (two wickets) also provided breakthroughs for their side. It remains to be seen how MP batters reply with the bat in their first innings.
