In a short period of time, the shortest format of cricket, the T20 format, has gained immense popularity among fans across the globe. The T20 format suits the fast-paced life of the modern era as it acts as a perfect dose of entertainment for the fans.

The matches in the shortest format have the right amount of thrill and excitement to keep the fans hooked to their seats. Though the T20 format is one of the most popular formats of the game, it won’t be wrong to say that the matches have more often proved to be a bowler’s nightmare.

The shortest format gives an edge to the batters as there is little to no room for errors for the bowlers. Just one bad over with the ball can completely shift the game. With this being said, the captaincy also plays an important role in deciding the fate of the match.

While playing a T20I, the captain has to be on an alert all the time and needs to make wise decisions regarding the regulation of the bowlers and the field set-up. As the cricket fraternity is gearing up for the highly-anticipated ICC T20 World Cup, let’s flip the pages and take a look at the leaders who are ruling the shorter format.

In the article, let’s rank the top 7 T20 International captains:

7. Temba Bavuma (South Africa)

There was a time when South Africa ruled the game of cricket as they boasted of having some world-class players in their side. However, in recent times, there has been a downfall in South Africa’s performance across all the formats of the game.

One of the reasons behind the same can be a frequent change in the leadership group. Temba Bavuma is the most inexperienced captain to feature in the list as, so far, he has led the Proteas side in just four T20 Internationals.

After Faf du Plessis stepped down as South African captain in 2020, Quinton de Kock was asked to fill his shoes in all formats. However, in March 2021, Cricket South Africa (CSA) decided to sack De Kock to bring split captaincy into play.

While Dean Elgar became the Test skipper, Temba Bavuma took over the reins of the white-ball team. Under Bavuma’s leadership, South Africa have featured in four T20 Internationals. However, they managed to secure victory in just one match and lost as many as three encounters.
