On Thursday (April 12), Afghan spin sensation Rashid Khan produced one of the most magical spells of this year’s Indian Premier League. He conceded just 13 runs in 4 overs and took the crucial wicket of Ben Cutting. His performance overshadowed Mayank Markande‘s brilliance, but Khan was quick to appreciate the young spinner for his amazing performance.

The 20-year-old from Bathinda, Punjab, Markande has pulled off 2 scintillating spells in two consecutive matches. In eight overs of his IPL career, he had conceded just 46 runs and has picked up 7 wickets, thereby earning the coveted purple cap.

Markande’s brilliance was of no use as Sunrisers Hyderabad defeat Mumbai Indians by one wicket in an edge of the seat thriller, but he mesmerized one of the best spinners of the world at the moment, Rashid Khan. “He is wonderful to watch. I saw him in the first game of this IPL. He was amazing, trying to defend such a low total which is always difficult. He did really well,” said the 19-year-old, as quoted by Sportstarlive.

On his new intimidating avatar

Khan matched eye to eye with the Caribbean giant Kieron Pollard last night and showed the world his intimidating avatar. A 19-year-old taming a beast of a person surprised many. Speaking of it, the owner of 100 ODI wickets said “Well, I have done this in the Big Bash too against him. Good fun out there in the center. It is just to engage myself in a battle with a difference and put in that extra effort.”

“These things make the game more entertaining. The plan was to go against Pollard aggressively and see him make mistakes. His wicket was very crucial then for he can have taken the game away from us with his batting,” he further added.

Chasing a small total of 148, Hyderabad lost their composure in the end after a solid start. However, Deepak Hooda‘s brilliance got them over the line. Speaking of the game, Khan said “We should have finished the game as we did against Rajasthan. But these things happen sometimes when you lose quick wickets. Thank God, we won the match and hopefully learn from the mistakes and not repeat them in the coming games.”
