Guyana Amazon Warriors exacted revenge on the back of Rashid Khan’s sensational hat-trick and Luke Ronchi’s blistering 70 runs off 33 balls to knock out the defending champions of Caribbean Premier League (CPL) Jamaica Tallawahs at the newly build Brain Lara Stadium.
After winning the toss, Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) asked Jamaica Tallawahs (JT) to bat first. Albeit wicket wasn’t offering much for the fast bowlers, GAW restricted the opposition for 168 runs, which led Tallawahs on back-foot for the remainder of the match. They chased down the score with 13 balls to spare powered by a splendid second-wicket partnership between Ronchi and Chadwick Walton, which sealed a five-wicket victory and eventually helped them to reach qualifier 2.
Rashid Khan- writer of his own book
It was Rashid who triggered the upset as he became the first bowler to pick hat-trick in Caribbean Premier League (CPL). All the three batsmen got out to his googly and had no answers what so ever. First of three to be dismissed was Andre McCarthy, who didn’t read the ball and went driving against the turn and was beaten all ends up. Second to be sent back to the pavilion was Jonathan Foo, who was left befuddled and was dismissed by a replica of the previous delivery. Foo left enough space for the ball to sneak in and ping the leg-stump.
To face hat-trick ball came in Rovam Powell, who didn’t read the googly either. Powell was tried to drive away from the body and was beaten by the turn. All the three balls spun back into the right-handed batsman and cost them their respective wickets.
Here’s the tweet
Rashid expressed ecstasy from his twitter handle saying, “My first ever Hat Trick And first hat trick of the #CPL History thanks, dear fans for your support and love”

With this, JT was left 116 for 7 and struggled to get to a defendable total. However, veteran wicketkeeper-batsman, Kumar Sangakkara helped his side reach a respectable total. Unfortunately for Jamaica, the score couldn’t stop GAW which eventually set a Thursday night showdown with Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR).
