Rashid Khan is one of the finest leg-spinners going around, and his performances across formats are nothing short of spectacular. Unlike most of the leg-break bowlers, Rashid doesn’t tend to give a lot of loop or flight to the delivery. He instead darts the ball in the stumps, and this approach has been benefiting the Afghanistan star. As a result, the 22-year-old has tormented some of the biggest names in the world.
The ICC men’s T20 player of the decade, Khan features in many prominent T20 leagues worldwide and has taken a plethora of wickets in those competitions. In an interaction, Khan was asked to name some of his wickets which gave him special satisfaction. In reply, the talismanic spinner recalled dismissing Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni and AB de Villiers. With these three dashers touted as the greats of the game, Rashid felt ecstatic after piercing their defences.
Dismissing these three batsmen felt special: Rashid Khan
“The three wickets that I enjoyed the most were of MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers. Taking wickets feels good but bowling out (hitting stumps) these three batsmen felt special,” said Rashid Khan in an exclusive interview with Cricwick.
Rashid hasn’t played a lot of international cricket against these three stars but has tackled them in the Indian Premier League (IPL). While the trio has tormented many prominent bowlers in the tournament, the star Afghanistan bowler has managed to dismiss them. At 22, the leg-spinner has already tasted some great success and it would be interesting to see how far he goes.
Opining on his future plans, Rashid said: “I just want to play cricket whether it’s five ten or 15 years. I don’t keep a count of wickets, I just focus on performing well for the team and win matches. What’s done in the past is gone and I focus on the present and try to help the team win.”
Meanwhile, Rashid will play for Lahore Qalandars in the remaining part of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021. The T20 tournament was scheduled to take place in February-March but got postponed due to the COVID-19 crisis. The leftover PSL matches will now take place in UAE, getting underway on June 9.
