Rasikh Salam has huge promise to evolve in the next 2-3 years: Yuvraj Singh
Salam was able to handle the building pressure as well in the opening fixture for Mumbai Indians.
As the 17-year-old Rasikh Salam from Jammu and Kashmir made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians, on Sunday, veteran Indian batsman Yuvraj Singh opines that was impressed with his composure and control over his swing. The skiddy right-arm pacer from Kashmir is the third player from his state to feature in the marquee T20 league.
Starting off with a no-ball against Delhi Capitals, Salam bounced back in the game with a confident bouncer on the free-hit that was pulled towards deep midwicket straight into the palms of a fielder. It being a free-hit though the youngster missed out on claiming his maiden IPL wicket on debut. However, his talent hasn’t gone unnoticed.
In fact, it was Irfan Pathan, the mentor of Jammu and Kashmir who first noticed Salam’s ability. Salam had said that the veteran Indian all-rounder was impressed with him during a talent hunt where several pacers from the region had turned up. Pathan had then informed the J&K coach Milip Mewada that he was taken by Salam’s talent.

Salam was able to handle the building pressure as well in the opening fixture for Mumbai Indians. His teammates in the Mumbai-based franchise and management are all aware of Salam’s talent. Indian batsman Yuvraj said that the Kashmiri fast bowler is going to develop as a special player in the next two to three years.
As quoted by India Today, Yuvraj, who scored a half-century for the Mumbai Indians in a lost cause against Delhi, said, “Rasikh swung the ball in the nets, that is why the boys wanted to play him. He got hit for a six and four in the last two balls. Other than that, he bowled well. I think he did fantastic for his first match in terms of handling the pressure. Pretty much like an international game. I feel he is going to be special in the next 2-3 years.”
