Cricket is a gentleman’s game and what the players wear on the field makes a lot of difference from the perspective of fans and their country. If a player takes the field then he is not representing just himself but his nation as well. So, his jersey always turns out to be a status symbol for the country. And, no country leaves a single stone unturned in making their cricket uniform unique and fascinating.

The coloured jersey was never in tradition before the 1992 World Cup. However, certain modifications ditched whites for the coloured ones and each country picked their preferred colours for their cricket team. However, this modification was kept limited to the ODIs followed by T20Is. It produced an essence of familiarity for the fans as they can seamlessly support their players wearing that colour during the games.

Every year, the cricket board of different countries comes out with some different and unique modifications in their ODI cricket uniform. Sometimes, it receives applauds from the fans but if there is any flaw, then fans hit back to the cricket council to remove that feature from the jersey.

Recently, the culture similar to football was also introduced based on the jerseys. Taking the same into the account, many countries have embraced home and away cricket uniform. But, this move still needed to be encouraged so that it can get into the picture as soon as possible.

Here’s rating the ODI jersey of top 10 teams in ODIs:

10. Bangladesh – 5.5/10

Bangladesh cricket team ODI jersey is not glittery and it looks quite simple and sober. It is totally green in colour that denotes the fertile land in the country with red colour portrayed horizontally. It gives a flashy look to the fans from the front. Moreover, the cricket board has also added zig-zag transitions in the lower half of the shirt to give a fascinating look.

Earlier in 2019, the board was brought under scrutiny for not using red colour in the national jersey with only green dominating the uniform. They also urged to add some red tone that signifies the Sun. The thought behind Tigers’ jersey is to try and resemble it with the country’s flag that is green in colour with a red circle.

If their fans are not happy with the national cricket uniform then the cricket board should come out with something new that can reap praises from their followers. There is nothing bad in bringing new changes that will make their players look more presentable on the cricket ground.

9. Afghanistan – 6/10

Afghanistan cricket team has certainly emerged as one of the nations that are filled with talented and exciting cricketers. In a very short span of time, they have covered a long distance in cricket. They are looked down as the underdogs who hold the ability to outclass any team on their best days. They played their first-ever ODI game in 2012 against Pakistan.

Its been almost eight years for the same and they have transformed their jersey look to an extent. At the moment, their cricket uniform is dominated by blue colour with the stripes of red, black and green that denotes their country flag.

These strides have been used on side-front and across the shoulders. The board have tried to conceptualise their team’s ODI jersey with the introduction of slanting variant on the blue coloured jersey. And, the name of the country being mentioned in white colour in Bold right at the front.

As an emerging nation in cricket, they are also required to come up with some more features in their jersey as they have a lot of things left to convert it into their best in ODIs. There is no doubt about the fact that they will no longer settle with the same jersey as Afghanistan always comes up with some surprises whether it be their game or their jersey.

8. West Indies – 6.5/10

West Indies players are quite lively on and off the field. There have been very rare moments when they get to indulge in any spat in the ground. They remain quite calm and composed when it comes to an international outfit. Moreover, West Indian cricketer received lots of praise from different countries as well. But, it looks like their board has no intention to come up with new innovative ideas over their team’s jersey.

Currently, West Indies players don a jersey that is fully dominated by their traditional maroon colour with yellow piping on the shoulders. Just one modification that they have done is the palm tree that they have included near the waist area. It is one of the most simple jerseys’ that is tuned with only two colours from top to bottom.

Many people will like simple things but West Indies’ board needs to learn that the players represent their country on the cricket field. So, they can go for new and surprising transformation from colours to the pattern that will give a new look. Sometimes, it also changes the luck of the team based on the astrological reasons. Hence, we can rate their jersey with 6.5 points.

7. Sri Lanka – 7/10

Sri Lankan cricket board has acknowledged their flag on the left side. They have used the colours of their flag in their overall jersey. They have used a yellow colour on the shoulders as well as on the sides of the shirt that ends up turning blue in the end. Sri Lanka has also used light blue colour stripes on the front to give it a contrasting effect. Also, they have mentioned their country name using yellow colour.

It looks quite amazing when their players play wearing the same but still, there is a ray of improvement that Sri Lanka Cricket Board can opt for in the near future. So, Sri Lanka’s ODI jersey can be given 7 points out of 10 based on the current factors.
