The second Test between Sri Lanka and England has been an enthralling one thus far. Following a resounding victory in Galle, the Three Lions didn’t get complacent and came out all guns blazing in Pallekele. After winning the toss and electing to bat first, they found themselves in a precarious position, having lost wickets at regular intervals, much to their discomfort.

However, half-centuries from Jos Buttler and Sam Curran helped the Brits post a competitive score of 290 in the first innings. The Lankans hit back hard and compiled a pretty substantial lead of 46 runs. Three of their batters- Dimuth Karunaratne, Dhananjaya de Silva and Roshen Silva- notched half-centuries to take the home team in a dominating position.

But the Poms didn’t drop the gun and racked up 346 runs in the second innings, thereby setting a target of 301 for the hosts to track down. English skipper Joe Root mustered a stupendous ton and eventually went on to score 124 runs from 146 deliveries with the help of 10 boundaries and a couple of sixes. Ben Foakes also stepped up and scored a valuable 65 from 199 balls.

The run-chase has been an enthralling one thus far and both teams have fought tooth and nail to overpower each. In the meantime, Indian off-break bowler Ravi Ashwin is following the second Test closely and is undoubtedly enjoying the contest between bat and ball.

The spinner is currently on a break and would be back during India’s four-match Test series against Australia, which gets underway on December 6 at Adelaide Oval. He is expected to play a vital role in the red-ball fixures as India would be looking to perform well.

Meanwhile, he took to Twitter and wrote, “Nothing like watching an enthralling test match, where both the batsmen and bowlers are in the game. #Engvsl,”
