Ravichandran Ashwin is reportedly set to join struggling Rising Pune Supergiant squad despite being injured. Ashwin picked up a sports hernia injury in the long home Test season where he picked a record 82 wickets in 13 Tests.

On the request of the support staff, especially the owner Sanjiv Goenka, Ashwin has confirmed his return for the remainder of the IPL much to the dismay of his former captain MS Dhoni. The 35-year old, who is struggling to get going in the tournament, has warned Ashwin of dire consequences if he participates in this IPL. It has been rumoured that following a barrage of critical tweets by Sanjiv’s brother Harsh Goenka, who has been rather ‘harsh’ on the wicket-keeper, Dhoni is deliberately under-performing to teach the Goenka’s a lesson.

This might be true because Dhoni was striking the ball well in the England series and also scored a century in the ODI’s.

Ashwin, though, is keen to risk his injury. He said that he can bowl by just taking a jump to avoid pain in his abdominal and groin area. “I have had success for a number of years with my bowling so I think taking a one stride jump and bowling will still instill fear in the batsman’s mind. For a number of years I have wondered as a spinner, having a run-up is futile anyway” said Ashwin, with his tongue firmly tucked in his cheek.

Ashwin also confirmed that he has been hitting the ball well whenever he visualizes in his free time and said that he can ask the Goenka’s to talk to the authorities to make him bat with a runner.

“The batsman in me believes that I can contribute to the woefully struggling batting unit. Hopefully Goenka will help sort me out with a runner and who knows what is in store for us as a team.”

RPS is languishing at the bottom of the table. They made massive headlines when they procured the services of Ben Stokes for a whooping Rs 14.5 crores. Despite that, they are last in the points table at the moment highlighting a good point of the Master Card advertisement: “Money can’t buy you everything’.

It remains to be seen how Ashwin goes about his business as he is literally is on one leg!
