Ravichandran  Ashwin of India, who is regarded as one of the leading spinners of this generation has added another feather to his cap today. The master of the carrom ball lifted the prestigious International Cricketer of the Year award at the CEAT Cricket Rating (CCR) International awards 2017.

Dignitaries Sunil Gavaskar and the RPG Enterprise Chairman Mr. Harsh Goenka handed over the award to Ravichandran Ashwin for his stellar performance throughout the past one year. Harsh Goenka is also the brother of MR. Sanjiv Goenka, the owner of the Chennai-born bowler’s IPL franchise, the Rising Supergiant, which made it to the IPL finals this year.

The Indian Team has gone through an incredible Test season achieving 10 wins out of the 13 Tests they played against New Zealand, Bangladesh, England and Australia. Without a shade of doubt, Ravichandran Ashwin has been the center of attraction in the Indian bowling attack as he weaved his magic against all the above-mentioned opponents. He has been well supported by left-arm off spinner Ravindra Jadeja who has proved to be the perfect success story of recent times.

With 99 wickets in just 12 matches under his belt, Ravichandran Ashwin has established himself to be the most deadly spin bowler of in the ranks.

As far as the Young Player of the year award is concerned, it was picked up by a promising Shubhman Gill. The youngster was prolific with the bat during the India-England U-19 ODI series, which was played in Mumbai.

Ravichandran Ashwin’s speech:

Ashwin went into flashback and recalled the moment when he took the Autograph of legendary batsman, Mr. Sunil Gavskar at the Chepauk stadium in Chennai. The autograph was the off spinner’s first one ever.

Ashwin also lauded the efforts of Washington Sundar who was crucial for the Rising Pune Supergiant in their journey to the final. Speaking about the Tamil Nadu teenager, Ashwin said “Washington did really well in the Vijay Hazare trophy. I had heard from a couple of people that he is doing well. He has got good idea of how to bowl in T20s and to ball with the new ball is a massive challenge. “The first scar which you will inflict will always have value and he initially bowled well. The pace and the length which he hit was very very critical,”
