Leading Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin looked clearly upset with the media at the press conference. India had a dominating day of play on day 2 when half the English side went back to the pavilion. Ashwin bagged a couple of wickets on the day. The media and the pundits have been focusing on the pitch. There have been talks about India catering the pitch as per their needs.

This has always been the case when matches have been played in India. The media often sees the pitch as favoring the host side. Such is the discussion that the credit often goes to the pitch than the players for a win. When India dismantled the English top order at Vizag, the same claims resurfaced. Ravichandran Ashwin came to the press conference and mockingly said that some day he will not answer questions about the pitch at all.

“One day I really wish to walk into a press conference and stop answering questions on the pitch,” said Ashwin with a grin. He then termed the talks about the pitch as a ‘media jibe’. Not many question the pitch when Asian teams struggle on bouncy tracks overseas.

When asked about how the pitch is looking at the moment and predictions about it’s behaviour tomorrow, Ashwin called it a good Indian wicket. He then reiterated indicating it is said that this jibe keeps coming back at India. Ravichandran Ashwin conceded that the media can assess the pitch much better than the players if such speculations continue to stay afloat.

“That is as good as an Indian pitch one can get. I don’t know why this jibe comes back at us. Honestly it looks like a jibe the way we are looking at Indian wickets. It does. Honestly you guys (media) watch the game through the day and the pitch is something that you can assess better than we do,” he quoted.
