Senior Indian left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja posted a motivational tweet on Monday after failing to find a place in India’s playing XI in the first Test against England at Edgbaston. The 29-year-old spinner who also bats decently featured in India’s last Test assignment – against Afghanistan – in June and picked six wickets in that game for not many. His axing hence did not go down well with his fans.

But the fact cannot be debated that with the arrival of new-generation spinners in Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal, places of the likes of Jadeja and 300-plus wicket-taker Ravichandran Ashwin have come scrutiny.

Ashwin – the only spinner

Team India decided to play only one spinner in the opening Test against England in the form of Ravi Ashwin and his 4 for 60 on Day 1 could see Jadeja and even the sensational Kuldeep Yadav wait for a while. Jadeja though was the 12th man for the visitors as he was seen on the field more often as a substitute. However, he must have been disappointed after being left out once again in an overseas Test and came up with a motivational tweet.

His tweet read: “Remember for the past, Plan for the future, but live for today, because yesterday is gone and tomorrow will never come.!!!”

Since spinners have lesser chances to feature in the playing XI during the away series, the pressure will always be on them. India are on the road since January this year and are also set to travel Australia later this year which might keep Jadeja out of the playing XI for a longer time.

Having said that, the left-arm spinner might have to play a role later in the series. If the summer in England continues to be hot, the pitches will turn more and Virat Kohli will make sure that he keeps the hosts at bay courtesy of his quality spinners.
