Former South Africa captain and veteran batter Graeme Smith has praised all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja’s decision to give up the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), emphasizing the fact that Jadeja might have realized that the captaincy role is not right for him at this point of his career.

It is to be noted that the Yellow Army on April 30 (Saturday) announced that Jadeja has stepped down from the leadership role and the captaincy was handed back to the Captain Cool MS Dhoni. Earlier, the Yellow Army had announced that Jadeja has replaced Dhoni as the defending champions’ skipper before the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.

The defending champions have won only two matches in IPL 2022 so far

The defending champions are having a horrible time in IPL 2022 as they have won only two out of their eight matches and their two victories have come against the five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

“I think you have got to focus on Jadeja, he got the captaincy at the late stage going into the tournament. Everyone was questioning whether he had a lot on his plate with the bat, ball, and on the field. And it hasn’t quite worked out,” Smith said during a panel discussion with Star Sports.

“He has realized that. He has come to terms with the fact that at this stage, maybe leadership is not for him and he has got a really good guy to fall back on MSD. He has got a huge amount of experience and a calm character. Let’s hope Jaddu can have a great finish to the season with bat and the ball,” he added.

Meanwhile, the defending champions will take on the Sunrisers Hyderabad in their group stage encounter to be played at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune on May 1 (Sunday). In their previous clash in IPL 2022, the Orange Army beat CSK by a comfortable margin.
