Former legendary captain Sourav Ganguly has cited the absence of Virat Kohli as the reason behind Royal Challengers Bangalore’s indifferent performance in the tournament so far. Ganguly said that RCB is missing the inspirational leadership qualities of Virat Kohli who led India to 9 consecutive series wins in the recent past.

The star batsman has been forced to miss out the first 3 matches of RCB where the underachievers of the tournament managed a solitary win and lost the remaining two by big margins. Kohli injured his right shoulder during the 3rd Test against Australia at Ranchi while chasing a delivery till the boundary ropes.

He fell awkwardly on his shoulder and looked in utter discomfort. Though he came out to bat and even fielded in Australia’s 2nd innings, he couldn’t recover in time and missed the final Test in Dharamsala. He was hoping to get fit for the opener against Sunrisers Hyderabad but it didn’t pan out that way. He is expected to be back for RCB’s next game against the Mumbai Indians on 14th April.

“It has been a pretty even start for most of the teams except for Royal Challengers Bangalore who has lost a lot of players due to injury. South African AB de Villiers made a comeback on Monday night and made his presence felt straight away but you can see the side is missing the leadership and determination of their captain Virat Kohli,” Ganguly wrote in his column for the Times of India.

In the absence of the charismatic Delhi lad, Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has taken over the captaincy duties. Some of his moves have baffled one and all, with the biggest of them being choosing to bat first in the 3rd match against the Kings XI Punjab. Dew was expected to play a big part towards the later part of the innings and the decision proved to be a horrendous one from the point of view of RCB.
